Appledore Sails Appledore Sails - Sailing the Estuary, Bristol Channel and beyond. Appledore Sails has two sailing boats available for sailing in the Torridge Taw estuary, the Bristol Channel and beyond. Privately charter 'Patron', Appledore Sails' 31 foot skippered yacht, just for yourselves for a short trip over Bideford Bar, for a day trip to Lundy or Clovelly, for a weekend or longer including trips to Wales, Scillies, Ireland or further. Book-a-Berth trips are also available where two or three lone sailors join together for a great sailing experience. Appledore Sails caters for those who have never been on a boat before through to experienced sailors who wish to build miles and night passages before undertaking their Yachtmaster Exams. Patron is a Moody 31 Mk 2, a Bermuda sloop design and her name means 'Our Protector'. She loves living up to her name! -a Devonshire built yacht designed for British waters. She is RYA certified for safety compliance up to sixty miles offshore and carries a liferaft, lifejackets for all on board, and a full complement of safety equipment including GPS, chart plotter, radar, first aid kit and storm sails. The Skipper is a commercial RYA qualified off-shore Yachtmaster. Appledore Sails also provides the opportunity to sail on a very pretty locally made two masted 15 foot traditional Appledore lugger 'Jez-y-belle' with a qualified skipper. A couple, family or small group of friends can enjoy two to three hour boat trips around the Torridge Taw Estuary under sails or motor depending on weather or preference. Trips start and finish on Appledore Quay and fit in with high tide. A beautiful way to spend a summer morning, afternoon or evening, pottering up to Bideford Quay, passing Instow, sailing past Crow Point, may be down to Fremington Quay. Depending on the wind and tide, just have a relaxing time 'going with the flow'. Appledore Sails caters to those who wish for a gentle sail as well as those who wish to experience the strong tidal conditions found in the Bristol Channel. Appledore Sails caters for those who have never been on a sailing boat before and who would like the adventure of sailing the first time, either in the estuary or out to sea. Appledore Sails caters for those wishing to go out for a few hours, the day, for a few days or longer. Appledore Sails is the only company on the North Cornwall / Devon / Somerset coast which charters skippered sailing boats. Appledore Sails hopes to provide you with a unique adventure. We do not crowd as many people onto the boat as possible. Normally this will be a family, a couple, or a small group of friends. There is a maximum of six people on Patron at any one time, and four guests is the maximum we will take on Jez-y-belle. Appledore Sails hopes its guests will want to join in with sailing of the boat, within their abilities. Even first timers can take the tiller and pull a few ropes! Appledore Sails is elite, is special and provides time and experience for you.
