    Winter Newsletter
    Flood in Newlyn
What crazy weather we've been having down here in the Far West & across the whole UK. I hope everyone is ok and not been washed away! On the plus side it has been really windy and some good waves, making for plenty of kiting and surfing since my return from Ireland for the KSP where we didn't have enough wind to get a result. Still had some fun times and plenty of action outside of the comp. Ireland is an amazing place and if you've never been, I would advise a trip, if only for the Guinness! The school is now shut for beginner lessons until the spring, however we are still open for short private lessons when the weather is right. 2012 has been a mixed year for weather and with the state of the economy been a bit quieter for lessons than we would of liked. Still we had plenty of people learning to kitesurf with us down at Gwithian and Marazrion with an amazing 80% of students up and riding the board, gaining their BKSA Level 2 independant kiteboarder award after our 2 day BKSA course. I would like to thank Blake who has been doing a great job running things while I have been away on tour this year. The feedback has been great with a lot of very pleased students who have now joined the elite ranks of being a Kitesurfer! Over the winter I have some exciting projects in the pipeline, as well as running our coaching holidays. Please read on to find out more details along with what we at Pasty Adventures have been up to since September. I wish you a safe and merry December & hope to see you on a windy wavey beach sometime soon. cheers. Lee 'Pasty' Harvey
Stuck with getting a present? We sell Gift Vouchers for all of our kitesurf courses. Perfect for someone who's looking at learning next year or we also offer vouchers for private coaching by the hour which runs all year. The perfect gift for the Kitesurfer that already has everything! Email for more info.
If you have previously had a lesson with Pasty Adventures, then you are entitled to a special discount off new North Kitesurfing Equipment with our friends Westcountry Watersports. We have been putting the new 2013 Rebel and Evo through its paces for a while and both are amazing kites. There are also some great package deals available on the 2012 Fuse & Neo with various boards. Give them a bell on 01326 376363 or pop into the shop down at Mylor Yacht Harbour and ask for a Pasty Adventures special. Alternatively contact us for advice on which kit is best for you.
    Tara swim's the Dart 10k
Well I did the longest swim ever (in the history of Tara Acton, anyway!). I was hoping to do it in less than 4 hours, but I finished in a fantastic personal best of 3 hours 7 minutes for 10 kilometres swimming down the river Dart! Was so pleased to see the end I did a proper sprint finish overtaking quite a few in the process :) we are doing well with the fundraising, achieved nearly 300, almost half way. Any contributions much appreciated please use the Virgin Giving page. Thank you for all you support, especially Pasty Adventures, Lee Harvey, Jane Acton, Simon Evans, and Uncle Alpaca Johnny and Aunty Julie. cheers ya'll. Tara xxx
Lee Pasty on the KSP World Tour
Lee finished in an amazing 9th place in the 2012 One Eye Pro, Mauritius. Only losing out to event winner Patri Mclaughlin in the non elimination round 1 and being narrowly beaten in round 5 by 3rd place finisher Sebatian Ribeiro. Unfortunately the wind didn't play ball at the next stop in Ireland and Lee could not find the funds for Hawaii which is running now, so we will have to see where his ranking ends up? For a full write up and pics check out Lee's blog and be sure to Like Pasty's Facebook page for all the gossip and news on his latest antics.
    Video Project
Lee is currently looking for Sponsors as well as Videographers and Film editors for an exciting 4 part video/film series. Showcasing Kitesurfing and Culture around the 4 Corners of the UK, plans are already in place for the series to be aired on The Kiteshow. If you know anyone who may be interested in sponsoring or working on this project, please contact
    Technique Blog
As well as writing a regular technique feature for Kiteworld Magazine, Lee has also set up a Technique Blog for regular kitesurfing coaching tips, including loads of pictures and video. The blog covers loads of stuff, from safety tips to the latest move in all aspects of our amazingly diverse sport. Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss out-
Thanks for reading and now that it's getting colder, please remember to check your gear and stay safe. If in Doubt, Don't go out! We hope to see you on a Pasty Adventure soon

    Gone Swimming
Happy Christmas - and swimming in the New Year!
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year
We would have put up some pictures from our moonlight swim a few weeks ago - but our cameras didn't really pick much up.
Well we are winding down for a little break over Christmas, but looking forwards to some chilly swims in the New Year. Gabby has been very busy baking Bara Brith and Banana Bread as presents for people.
It was lovely to catch up with some of you (Wouter, Keith, Peter, Viv, Anne, Carmel, Jamie... and some others I'm sure I've forgotten) at the Outdoor Swimming Society December Dip down at Parliament Hill Lido. It was very cool to swim in a shiny stainless steel pool. I managed to do the two widths, then sneaked back in again for the two lengths! It was a nice cold swim.
We are back down to London for the Cold Water Swimming Championships in Tooting Bec Lido - on the 26th of January, so please come along to support the event and pop in to say hello too. We understand it is fully booked already.
The week after, we are heading up to Windermere to ChillSwim - on the 2nd of February again another great event run by some really nice folk. If you're up that way, do come along.
It is then back to normal for us and gearing up for our February trip to South Snowdonia - with bookings coming in for that one. It also looks like Anglesey is going to a popular option this year too. The calendar is on the website so:
Don't delay - book your place today.
Happy Christmas from both us, and if you are out & about for a festive dip - stay safe, take photos, and send them over to us. We love to hear about your swimming adventures. Dan & Gabs xx
    Top tips for winter dips:
    - Get in deliberately, and carefully. Go slowly, but don't stop - it only makes it worse!
    - Crocs & socks. Not stylish, but definitely easy to put when you are cold.
    - Put a hot water bottle (with hot water in it!!) in your kit bag. So when you get out after your swim, your towel is toasty, and your clothes are warm too! You can then warm your fingers and toes on it once you are dressed!
Follow our blog for all sorts of advice, tips, and news.

Where To Surf In Jan 2013?
January is a popular time of the year to head away from the cold dark winter (and turkey hangover) and head to the beach. Despite it being the Northern Hemisphere winter, good warm surf is not far away. The top surfing locations can be banded into two categories. Warm and Tropical. The best warm locations (summer wetsuit required) are Morocco (Taghazoute and Tamraght) and the Canary Islands, mainly Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. This time of the year air temperatures hang around 25c and consistent swells means a flat day is very unlikely. If you want to ditch all forms of wetsuits then the Tropical options with good surf include Costa Rica, Sri Lanka and Barbados. You can also get fun waves in Bali during this time. For more advice on where to go drop us a line and we'll be happy to help.
    Stay Cool, Stay Social
Come hang out with us this December. Join us on Facebook and stay right up to date with the latest offers and flight deals. Check out more photos from our surf holidays and meet other like minded surfers (and surfers to be!). You could even win a luxury surfing holiday to Morocco.
