    Sealife Adventures
    Sealife adventures Trips
Sealife-adventures is a Visit Scotland 4 star Wild Life Experience. We run wildlife, whirlpool and whale watching trips from our purpose-built easy access pontoon and private car park on Seil, a scenic 30 minute drive south of Oban. Our boat offers a unique combination of uncrowded comfort, stability and exceptional speed from silenced twin engines.
All trips are skippered by David, a marine biologist who has been an owner/skipper in this area for 25 years. Our enthusiastic wildlife guide will provide commentary and an endless supply of hot drinks and biscuits - there is a washroom.
We have scheduled the following trips for the next few days, pre-booking is strongly advised. We can schedule in other trips to suit you.
Please phone us on 01852 300 203 (eve and weekend) or 01631 57 10 10 (office hours), if you wish to book or for more information or if you wish us to schedule in more trips.

    Poole Windsurfing
Windsurf Lessons & Hire - Summer Special Offers
Why not give windsurfing a go this summer with our great saving on a Full Beginners Windsurfing Course, costing only 79 per person! Now is the time to really make something of the summer, learn a new sport, build your fitness and have a laugh.
We are running the Full Beginners Windsurfing Lessons 7 days a week throughout the summer, its just a case of giving us a call on 01202 237247 to find a course that suits you. Whether you are local or not, Poole Harbour really is the No. 1 location at which to learn how to windsurf. At the Poole Windsurfing School we provide all the latest windsurf equipment to make your learning easier and have experienced instructors on hand to see you through the learning process.
It may not have been the sunniest summer on record but its been great for windsurfing and our students have really been progressing, making the most of the windy conditions.
Our recent Olympic Silver Medalist, Nick Dempsey has shown what a great sport windsurfing is. Windsurfing really is an exhilarating sport that anyone can learn, with the fantastic modern stable boards & lightweight sails that we have available for our students.
The introduction of such technologies as RDM Carbon masts (Reduced Diameter Masts) and shorter, wider boards have made it a lot easier than you may think to learn how to windsurf.
If you can already windsurf and just want to rent some equipment to practice then why not checkout our great windsurf hire rates and maybe you also want to take part in our weekly evening windsurf club.
Summer On Hold But Great Windsurfing Conditions!
Summer may have been put on hold again for the moment but the conditions for windsurfing are fantastic! As you can see from the chart below we are getting a good breeze everyday this week here at Poole Harbour. There are even some nice clear sunny spells...
Today's 'staff training' windsurf session was great, an empty harbour, steady top end of a force 4, sunshine & super flat water creating perfect blasting conditions. Unfortunately everyone was having too much fun to get any film/photos!
Make the most of the conditions and come on down to the Poole Windsurfing School!
    Olympic Windsurfing Competition Format
The Men's RS:X fleet start their Olympic campaign on Tuesday 31 July at 12:00 on the Weymouth Bay West Course. The fleet have a lay day on 3 August before racing resumes on 4 August. The Men's RS:X will play to the Nothe Spectator area on 7 August where the gold medalists will be decided after the Medal Race.
British windsurf hopeful, Nick Dempsey - Bronze medal winner in Athens and fourth placed last time out in Beijing - explains the rules and format of the Olympic competition and how the course and weather conditions affect the final table.
Nick Dempsey (GBR) is one of the most determined athletes in the fleet and as a Weymouth based lad he will know the waters better than anyone. The Brit won bronze at Athens 2004 but missed out on the medals in Beijing, finishing fourth. He won the RS:X Worlds at the same venue in 2009 and has finished on the podium at all eight of the senior regattas he has sailed in at Weymouth and Portland.
Julien Bontemps (FRA) comes into London 2012 as the Men's RS:X World Champion having picked up gold in Cadiz, Spain in March. The Frenchman finished ninth at Athens 2004 and won silver at Beijing 2008 and he is aware of the threats posed at London 2012, "I think there are seven or eight guys who can win the medals," said Bontemps. "I think I am part of those and that's what we've been training towards. This is my third Olympics so I'm used to the pressure and to feel the entire nation behind me. A lot of people have confidence in you and it is a great feeling."

    Evening Cruise
The final evening cruise of 2012 will be on Wednesday 29th August. Departing from Chatham Maritime at 1730hrs, the trip takes in the upriver sights of the Medway before returning after sunset, at around 2030hrs.
30 per person, tea and coffee included. Passengers are welcome to bring their own picnic/wine.
Other trips are available until 28th September. Please see for full schedule.
    Barge Championship
This Sunday is the Southend Barge Match. Starting at 1130hrs, the entire match is held within sight of the pier, with the start, halfway point and finish all off the famous landmark as the barges complete a figure of eight course.
Edith May currently lays joint first in the Championship with the Edme and a good showing here will set her up nicely for the final match on the Colne (spaces still available for Colne @ 125).
    Barge Burgled
In the evening of Wednesday 25th July, the barge was broken into at Lower Halstow dock. Amongst the items stolen were two laptops (a 2004 HP and a brand new Sony Vaio Ultrabook). Unfortunately, they also stole the back up disks and so we have lost a great deal of photos from the restoration and the first few years of sailing.
With much of the business being run from the laptop, it has been a difficult few weeks for Edith May Trading Company. We are grateful to those who have provided assistance over this period as we look to build our archive back up once again.
    Open Days - Saturday 18th/Sunday 19th August
The barge will be in Lower Halstow dock this weekend, reprising her role as a tea room for a couple of days.
Serving cream teas and cake, she will be open from 1100-1600 on both days.
Slightly over half way through the season and there are many cups and pennants to show off, as well as plenty of stories we look forward to sharing!
    Barge Matches
Edith May has now won 3 out of 5 barge matches this year. Adding to her triumphs in the Passage Match and Blackwater, she has now won the Thames for the first time in 60 years. Very fitting that she should win the Coronation and Jubilee barge matches.
Her next match is the Southend, on Sunday 26th August. The whole race can be viewed from the pier head and commentary is provided. First start 1130hrs.

    Surf's Up! Polzeath
If you're coming down this week, then surf is what you're going to the 2-3ft range. Sweet. 07760 126225 to pre-book lessons and hire, worth doing as it looks like it's going to be busy.
    Surf's Up! - Where there's a Wave
Back to the beach, what's up? Well..... in summary, it's been a nice, busy. About five years ago, Polzeath was over crowded - difficult to park; to get accommodation; to find space for a base on the beach or in the surf; to get a bite to eat - all a stress for visitors. What we have now, as a result probably of that period putting visitors off, the struggling economy, the weather and the OIympics, is a fluid busy that everyone can enjoy. There's space and it's a good thing. Those that are here are getting the best of it, no question. There's a really nice relaxed feel about the village, less manic than it used to be. As a business you might expect us to say that this is a bad thing. But this is our home and we too want to enjoy the beach, particularly as our boys get older and more independent. Take yesterday, I went surfing with my boys (and their cousins) at midday - 2ft super clean, low tide - plenty of space, none of that jostling for a set wave. A real joy. Makes a difference at the surf school too - both clients and instructors buzzing, well done Wailo and team. Lots of good feedback, everyone's a winner. Lots of good feedback too about the shop stock - well done Sarah.
While I'm on the subject of holidays, Janey has asked me to let you know that we have two dates available for our flat in Trenant Close (a five min walk to the beach) - Sunday 12th August for 5 nights and Friday 24th for 7 nights. If you're keen for a last minute break then give us a shout on 07760 126225 - sleeps up to ten (we'd rather less), bunk beds, views to Stepper.
Surf today - 2ft, light onshore - great for beginners and improvers!
