    Spring Newsletter
    Welcome to our Spring Newsletter
What a great winter we have had and an awesome start to the spring with balmy temperatures and pumping surf down here in Cornwall. A slight blip at the moment but its lining up to be a cracking season. In the school we are fully equipped with the new North Neos, which are awesome freeride kites, super stable and this makes them work really well in the waves too. We also have on demo most of the range of 2012 North surfboards. We have new stock of wetsuits from West to keep all our customers nice and warm with winter suits while its cold and summer suits when it warms up. Lee has just become a BKSA Race and Wave coach and will be travelling around the UK this year running clinics in both disciplines as well as clinics here in Cornwall. If you would like a clinic in your area, please get in touch. Happy riding and we hope to see you soon!
    Blake joins the Team
We are pleased to welcome Blake Evans onto the team as a Kitesurf Instructor to work alongside Lee and run lessons when Lee is away at comps. For more info on Blake, check out the About Us section on the website.
    Coaching Holidays
Back in February, Lee ran a Freeide & Wave coaching holiday to Dakhla, Morocco in conjunction with the world leaders in Kite & Windsurf Holidays- Sportif. An amazing time was had by all with a full week of wind and 3 days of awesome waves. See the full write up and video on the website. Next up we have an exciting Wave and Freeride Holiday on the paradise island of Mauritius 31st August - 10th September. In conjunction with Sportif and Club Mistral, we will be riding in the amazing spot of Le Mourne home of the KSP One Eye Pro. 6 days of coaching in the flat water lagoon and the perfect waves of Manawa on the upwind side of the reef pass. The final 3 days of your trip will be left for you to practise your new found skills or you can simply relax in paradise and watch the Worlds best compete in the KSP event out at One Eye. Alongside myself we will also be joined by 2011 One Eye Pro winner Ninja Bichler to give you the best wave coaching available in the best location I have ever been to. Resin8 Surfboards
Lee's longtime sponsor Resin8 have set up a new custom board factory in Bude, North Cornwall. Lee has been working with shaper Carl Welton on lay ups and shapes to give you the best feeling boards to kite as well as surf. As each board is custom made you can get the exact right board for you weight and the conditions you ride in. Boards can come with or without footstrap inserts, extra glass, Inlayz which add strength and reduse weight, 3 or 5 fins and all boards come with the strongest fin boxes- Fusion from FCS. These boards are made for performance riding both with a kite and paddle surfing meaning you only have to take 1 board to the beach or on a trip! They are not designed for jumping and as such come with no warranty. Look out for the new website coming soon If you want a board to purely kite and jump, then we recommend the 2012 North surfboards which are the best feeling production boards out there.
    Kitesurf Course Racing
The big news is that Course Racing is going Olympic! After a very successful trails event in Santander recently, ISAF have announced that Kitesurfing will definately be in 2020 and they are looking to get an extra medal to include it alongside windsurfing in Rio 2016. Lee recently ran a talk at Penzance Sailing club, which had lots of interest from the dinghy sailors and hopefully we will be racing at the club soon. If you would like a talk on Kite Racing at your club or simply want to give it a try then, please get in touch. We are also looking for suitable venues or sailing clubs to run Kite racing in 2012 and beyond. Lee has a 2011 North race ltd 69, tri fin production board for sale at a great price.

    Gone Swimming
Wild Swimming in North Wales - the latest from the Gone Swimming team
Where has the start of this year gone? It didn't seem to be two weeks ago that we were swimming down the Dee - yet it was just after New Year! The water has definitely warmed up since then, and we have definitely noticed an increase in inquiries now the thermometers are moving upwards.
Our rubbish swimming campaign has got off to a great start, with some good coverage in the local press, and we have since built on that with a Surfers Against Sewage Big Spring Beach Clean day up at Hells Mouth near Abersoch on the Llyn Peninsula.
We are looking forward to the May Day bank holiday and our first Wet Weekend of 2012. There is still availability on the weekends, and with our new online booking system - there is no excuse to hang about, get yourself booked on! Plans are well under way for the Pleasure of Adventure holidays once we have sorted ourselves out after the Olympic & Paralympic Games (no, we aren't competing - we're volunteering).
Recently for us, well on Easter Saturday, Mike & Dan are getting together to swim down the River Dyfi. We've got a few training days and update days with the Royal Lifesaving Society which we are looking forward to, and we are heading down to the RoSPA Water Safety Seminar in a couple of weeks too. You see, we really mean it when we say we take your safety seriously.
If you want to come and see us and have a chat at the H2Open Day in Reading, you can win tickets here.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the newsletter,
    Dan & Gabs.
Special Offer - Date for your diaries
We are doing something very interesting on the 28th of April, as well as being down at the H2Open Day. It is top secret, and for a very limited time, keep your eyes peeled. In the mean time, please pass this newsletter on to friends who might be interested.
    Eating before swimming
The American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council have looked at the the correlation between eating and accidents when swimming in both adults and children. They investigated whether swimming one hour after eating is safe or not. They concluded that there is no evidence on the association between eating and swimming as well as drowning. Just an old wives tale then, however we do think that it makes a big difference to the comfort of the swimmer. A full roast dinner before a 5km swim.... no thanks. Keep it warm, and we'll have two roast dinners afterwards!
    Government Consultations
We have submitted our replied to the two consultations being run by the Countryside Council for Wales and the Snowdonia National Park Authority. The CCW have released a Wild Swimming code which we have helped to develop, and they are now looking for public feedback. We think it is great that swimmers are recognised as one of the major groups of water users along side paddlers and anglers. The Snowdonia NPA have released their Recreational Strategy for the next five years, which neglected to mention any swimming at all! We hope to put that right soon.
    Coaching & Workshops
We started as a holiday company, but after several requests we now offer personalised open water swimming coaching sessions from a two hours to a whole day - whatever you need, contact us for more information. We have also developed a variety of one-day skills workshops looking at the specifics of swim safety, surf swimming, and river swimming. These can be run on-demand at many locations.

    Poole Windsurfing
Help Save Top UK Wave Spot - Broad Bench Kimmeridge
One of the best surf/windsurf spots on the south coast is in need of your support. At Kimmeridge, the wave known as Broad Bench, is situated just within a Ministry of Defence firing range's restricted outer limits! Campaigners, Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) & Access Broad Bench Association (ABBA) believe there is a compromise that will allow full public access to Broad Bench whilst maintaining full use of the site for military exercises.
They need your support to help increase sustainable, public access to the waves at Broad Bench, Kimmeridge, Dorset. If you want to help Please sign the petition and share it with as many friends as you can.
There aim is to reach reach 1,000 signatures.
Surfers Against Sewage is calling on the Ministry of Defence to review the current situation at the AFV Gunnery School, Lulworth Camp, Dorset where existing restrictions severely limit public access to one of the UK's best recreational waves.
The Ministry of Defence has refused to meet with SAS to discuss improving public access to the area despite the latest requests to do so.
The wave, known as Broad Bench, is situated just within the firing range's restricted outer limits. SAS believes there is a compromise that will allow full public access to Broad Bench whilst maintaining full use of the site for military exercises.
The unique coastal morphology and environment create surfing waves which are a jewel in the crown of British surfing, providing significant social, sporting, cultural and economic benefits for the local and wider communities. SAS are also fully supporting Marine Conservation Zones (MCZ) proposed for the area as these aim to restrict exploitation such as development, drilling, fishing and mining extraction rather than exclude sustainable public access. These MCZ's will help prevent irreversible change occurring to our precious coastline.

Adam Lewis - A New PWA Wave Champion in the making?
A new wave icon in the making, has UK windsurfer Adam Lewis got what it takes to become a PWA World Champion?
He's training hard in the Canary Islands, where many of the coming competitions will be held. Whilst putting in the hours training, he is also working closely with his windsurf sail sponsor, Point 7 Sails, developing their range of wave sails.
Adam is known for his BIG backloops (just watch the video below!), full power wave riding and no holds barred sailing.
Adam Lewis - 'You can't beat the feeling of heading out on the water with just a few of your mates. Im sure every windsurfer has had that feeling watching everyone trying to out do each other on every run, hooting and whooping when you see your mate pull off something cool. This winter has been fantastic in Tenerife it's been so windy, it's easy to get a little lazy about going sailing but this day definitely wasn't one of them. The wind was really fluky all day and a lot of people had given up and gone home. I just had a feeling that this was one of those days you just have to wait and eventually it will turn good! Sure enough at around 5.30 the you could see a wind line just up by the harbour wall but nothing in the bay. The waves looked awesome and the funky wind line was whipping the tops off them. We had to swim about 200m just to be able to water start but as I got upwind on my first wave I knew all the waiting and swimming was worth it, the tide was really low so the wave was pretty hollow, the first hit totally caught me off guard I only meant to do a turn but as the lip threw over I got sent up into the air and looked down to see my mate just grinning at me. The whole session was like that just taking turns on the waves without a care in the world. Epic!!'
Adam Lewis has hit the world stage of windsurfing and has his eyes set on conquering the world title!
